CalArts SSO Update: How to Register Your Account (login.calarts.edu)

What’s changing

CalArts is moving to a new SSO (Single Sign-On) system at login.calarts.edu.

This new SSO system is replacing our current SSO provider, QuickLaunch (the sign-in you use at sso.calarts.edu).

Deadline to register: March 1, 2026

What you’ll receive

You will get an email from do-not-reply@calarts.edu with:

• Your CalArts email address (your email does not change)

• Your User ID

• Your Registration Code

Step-by-step: Register your account

  1. Go to the registration site
Open a web browser and go to: login.calarts.edu  > Click Register My Account
  2. Enter your email address
When registering (and logging in), use your CalArts email address.
    ✅ Use: yourname@calarts.edu
❌ Don’t use: “User ID” or “username”
  3. Enter your Registration Code
Type in the Registration Code from your email.
  4. Create your password
You’ll be asked to create a password.
    Password requirements:
    - At least 12 characters
    - Avoid common/weak passwords (example shown: “calarts123456”)

Important: Your SSO password (and Wi-Fi) may change

When you set a password on login.calarts.edu, that becomes your new CalArts SSO password.

That means the password you use here will also become the password you use for:

QuickLaunch at sso.calarts.edu

CalArts Wi-Fi

• Other services that use your CalArts SSO password

If your current QuickLaunch/SSO password is already secure:

Use the same password on login.calarts.edu that you already use on sso.calarts.edu.

If you do this, your password won’t really change, and you likely won’t need to update Wi-Fi or saved passwords.

If you choose a new password

If you create a new password during registration, you may need to update saved passwords on:

• Your phone or laptop Wi-Fi

• Any devices/apps that store your CalArts password (saved browser passwords, mail apps, etc.)

Step-by-step: Set up 2-Factor Authentication (2FA)

After you sign in, you may be asked for a “One Time Password.”

That is a verification code used for 2-Factor Authentication (2FA).

Available 2FA methods

You can use any of the following methods (depending on what you have set up on your profile):

  • Authenticator App (ex: Rapid Identity app, DUO Mobile, Google Authenticator)
  • Email Authentication (a code sent to your personal email)
  • SMS Authentication (a code sent by text message)

How the Email and SMS code options work (order matters)

When you sign in to login.calarts.edu using your email address + password, the system will prompt you in this order:

1. Authenticator App (first)

2. Email Authentication (second — after clicking “Click Here for Email or SMS Codes”)

3. SMS Authentication (third — after clicking "Click Here for Email or SMS Codes” again)

So, if you don’t want to use the Authenticator App, you can click:

“Having trouble logging in? Click Here for Email or SMS Codes” to move to Email, and then click it again to move to SMS.

Verify or change where Email/SMS codes are sent (and control what options appear)

1. Log in to login.calarts.edu

(You may need to use the Authenticator App one time to get in.)

2. Click the Profile icon (top-right)

3. Go to Profile Details

4. Click Edit

5. Update the fields you want to use:

Personal Email (for Email Authentication)

Mobile (for SMS Authentication)

6. Save your changes

If you don’t want Email Authentication

In Profile Details → Edit, remove/clear Personal Email.

If you don’t want SMS Authentication

In Profile Details → Edit, remove/clear Mobile.

If you have both Personal Email and Mobile set

After Authenticator App, the “Try another method” order will be:

Email first

SMS second

After you register

Once you register and sign in, you’ll see a page with links to apps and services.

During the transition, some apps may still ask you to sign in through the old system until they are fully moved over.

Common questions

“I can’t register”

• Make sure you are using your email address (not User ID).

• Make sure you are using the Registration Code from your email.

“What is a ‘One Time Password’?”

It’s the code from your 2FA method (Authenticator App, Email, or SMS).

“Can I use security questions instead?”

No — security questions are not available.
