CalArts IT provides equipment for a single “workplace” per user. This equipment includes one of the following options:

  • All-in-One (AiO) desktop workstation with keyboard and mouse.
  • Laptop with docking station, 1 monitor, webcam, keyboard, mouse and headset.

For those working exclusively on campus, it is expected that equipment will be located in one’s office space.

For those working either completely or partially remote, with Vice President and Supervisor approval, an individual may locate the equipment remotely. However, devices for a second workplace will not be provided. It is up to the user and management where the equipment should be located in terms of preference and productivity, and the other space must be accommodated via other means. For example, someone working partially remote would have the laptop, dock, monitor, keyboard and mouse at home, and use the laptop by itself when on campus. Alternatively, that same individual might work most days on campus, and prefer to have the full configuration in one’s office, and only work off the laptop at home.

Note that we only provide a single monitor. If an individual had a second monitor prior to the publication of this policy, we will support that arrangement as best we can but ultimately small peripherals needed to support a second display may be at the department’s expense. For example, if our default docking station only supports a single monitor, then an additional display adapter may be required. We will do our best to identify cost-effective options in all cases.

Similarly, items such as laptop stands and extra peripherals are at the cost of the department or individual.
