What is UDOIT

UDOIT- pronounced "You Do It" - stands for the Universal Design Online Inspection Tool.

UDOIT is a course level accessibility checker that scans online course content, identifies possible accessibility issues, and guides course designers and instructors in repairing those issues using inclusive design principles -all from within the UDOIT interface.

What Does UDOIT Look for?

UDOIT scans the HTML of the following content items in a course: Announcements, Assignments, Discussions, Pages, Syllabus, and Module URLs.

It looks for the following possible accessibility issues and reports them as either errors or suggestions:

  • Adjacent Links Found
  • Alt Text For Images Within Links Should Not Be Empty
  • Alternative Text Is More Than the Maximum Allowed Characters
  • Alternative Text Should Not Be the Image Filename
  • Avoid Using Color Alone for Emphasis
  • Base Font Tag Should Not Be Used
  • Blink Tag Should Not Be Used
  • Captions Unavailable for Private YouTube Video
  • Captions Unavailable for Unlisted YouTube Video
  • Closed Captions Do Not Match Course Language
  • Closed Captions Were Auto-Generated
  • Decorative Images Should Have Empty Alternative Text
  • Document Reading Direction
  • Embedded Videos Must Have Captions
  • Font Tag Should Not Be Used
  • Heading Levels Should Not Be Skipped
  • Headings Should Contain Text
  • Image Description Is Too Long
  • Image Elements Should Have an "alt" Attribute
  • Images Should Not Have a Placeholder as Alternative Text
  • Insufficient Text Color Contrast With the Background
  • Links Should Contain Text
  • Marquee Tag Should Not Be Used
  • Multimedia Objects Should Have Text Equivalents
  • No Closed Captions Found
  • No Row or Column Scope Declarations Found in Table Headers
  • No Table Headers Found
  • Table Without Content Detected
