If you aren't sure how to add your CalArts email account on your iPhone or iPad then look no further! Adding your CalArts Student, Faculty, or Staff email on your iPhone or iPad is easy. Plus we have a couple of alternative apps at the end if you want to get a bit more out of your CalArts Google account!
This guide is specifically written for iOS 8 and above. If you're using an older version and need some help just submit a request and we'll be happy to help!
1. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
2. Tap on the Google icon
3. Enter your CalArts Email Address
This is the same whether you have an @calarts.edu or @alum.calarts.edu address.
4. Enter in your Password
If you use Two Factor Authentication you'll be asked for that information after tapping Next.
5. Choose What You Want to Sync
These are the settings we recommend if you want to use the default Mail and Calendar apps on your iPhone or iPad.
We strongly recommend not enabling Contacts. Google considers anybody you've ever emailed a Contact and has been known to fill an address book with thousands of email addresses. When you compose a message in the Mail app it will search your CalArs email for recipient names anyway, so enabling Contacts is (in nearly all cases) unnecessary.
Click Save when your done, after your account has been added we have just one more step.
6. Rename the Account
By default this account will be shown as Gmail. You do not have to change this if you don't want to, but if you have multiple Google accounts it can get confusing.
After your account has been added tap on the Gmail name, then on Account, and finally tape on Description to rename it. We tend to use CalArts Mail for simplicity, but any name will do, it is a label that is only seen by you.
7. All Done!
Open the Mail and Calendar apps and you should start seeing your email and events sync!
If you're looking for an alternative to the built-in Mail and Calendar apps her are some that we like:
- Gmail (free)
- Google Calendar (free)
- Fantastical (not free)
