How Do I: Report Spam or Phishing Emails?

Forwarding spam or phishing messages you receive to the IT department is a good first step to reporting Spam, but what is really helpful is the raw code behind the messages.  These are called the email headers and contain the technical details behind each message.

Showing the Email Headers

When you open the email in the Google Apps webmail interface, click on the downward arrow near the print button and click on Show original.

If you click on either Report spam or Report phishing that will help Google's filters block these messages in the future but does not send any information to CalArts IT.

This will open a new window containing the emai headers, including the raw data of the message.

The easiest thing to do here is click on Copy to clipboard and email that to the ticket system (cait@calarts.edu).  We can take it from there!
