Why Are There 2 Different Networks?
CalArts on-campus wireless has two different networks: CalArts and CalArtsGuest.
For our Students, Faculty, and Staff community CalArts is the best, most appropriate network to use.
In order to connect to CalArts one must use their CalArts SSO credentials. If you have forgotten your CalArts SSO credentials and need to have them reset please click here.
If you are a visitor, or someone who plans to have guests on-campus, they'll want to use CalArtsGuest.
If you are a CalArtian and wish to connect a smart device via WiFi (gaming console, smart home devices, smart lights), you'll need to register the device on CalArtsGuest. See below for instructions.
Open your Wi-Fi network list and select CalArts from the selection. When CalArts is selected you should be prompted with a login screen. Here you will need to use your CalArts SSO credentials.
Students and Alumni: Your username will be your first and last name with no spaces, similar to your CalArts email address. Do not include @alum.calarts.edu or @students.calarts.edu.
Faculty and Staff: Your username will be your first initial and last name with no spaces, similar to your CalArts email address. Do not include @calarts.edu.
After a few seconds an authentication certificate for server *.calarts.edu should pop up, select continue. You are now connected to the CalArts wireless network.
Windows computers are now much easier to get connected to CalArts with the implementation of our new wireless certificate!
The first step is to open your Wi-Fi list and connect to the CalArts wireless network.
You will then be prompted to enter your CalArts credentials and click OK.
Students and Alumni: Your username will be your first and last names with no spaces, similar to your CalArts email address. Do not include @alum.calarts.edu or @students.calarts.edu.
Faculty and Staff: Your username will be your first initial and last name with no spaces, similar to your CalArts email address. Do not include @calarts.edu.
Lastly, you will be prompted with a Windows Security notification to accept the wireless certificate, hit Connect.
You are now connected to the CalArts wireless network!
These instructions can be used to help connect CalArts visitors to our wireless network. The CalArtsGuest network will provide the same browsing speeds as the CalArts network.
Open your Wi-Fi network list and select CalArtsGuest from the selection. When CalArtsGuest is selected you should be prompted with a registration screen.
To register a device (phone, tablet, computer):
Enter your name and phone number, then read and accept the terms of use. Click Register
You will receive an SMS text message with a password. Enter that password on the registration screen :
People who register using this method will have 24 hours of internet access on the device they register before they will be forced to register again.
These are instructions that work for most devices. If you have trouble connecting your device after trying to follow the instructions below, submit a ticket at cait@calarts.edu.
Registering a device for setup
Using a computer, tablet or cell phone:
Open your Wi-Fi network list and select CalArtsGuest from the selection. When CalArtsGuest is selected you should be prompted with a registration screen.
Click on the link for registering a new device (shown in the image above).
On the ClearPass Guest screen, enter your CalArts SSO Username and Password > Log In
On the following screen you'll be asked to name the device you're registering:
You are also required to provide the MAC (also known as Wifi) Address for the device.
A MAC (Media Access Control) address, sometimes referred to as a hardware or physical address, is a unique, 12-character alphanumeric attribute that is used to identify individual electronic devices on a network. An example of a MAC address is: 00-B0-D0-63-C2-26.
If you have trouble finding the MAC Address on your device, try searching a web browser for "find [name of your device] MAC Address"
When you're done, click Create Device. Connect the smart device to CalArtsGuest.
Once the new smart device is registered & connected, you can reconnect to CalArts on the computer, phone or tablet you used to register the new device on. The devices should now function together.
Some online multiplayer games require a specific NAT type that may prohibit you from joining an online gaming experience. We cannot guarantee compatibility with all online games.
