Note: At this time Community Arts Partnership (CAP) faculty are not included in the CalArts Adobe site license.
CalArts has a site-license for Adobe Creative Cloud on CalArts-owned computers. This means that any institute-owned computer can have Adobe applications installed at no cost. An ancillary benefit of this site license is that CalArts Faculty and Staff can purchase Adobe Creative Cloud for their personal use for $10 per year.
CalArts IT has segmented the Creative Cloud applications into different suites, similar to what Adobe has done in the past. The following packages are available on either Mac or PC:
Acrobat Pro DC
- This package contains only Acrobat Pro DC and is installed by default on any new CAIT-managed workstation.
Audio / Video Suite
- Premiere CC
- Media Encoder
- After Effects
Photo & Design Suite
- This package contains every Adobe product that is available to install. Special procedures will likely need to be taken if you need the Complete Suite, as the file sizes are very large installation times are very long.
How Do I Get the Applications I Need?
If you're on a computer that is directly managed by CalArts IT, just send us a ticket with the suite you need and we can probably install it over the network (depending on the size).
If you're on a computer that is not directly managed by IT, or if you're a lab manager, just open a ticket listing the programs you need. We will need a flash drive with sufficient capacity to hold the installer files, we generally recommend the SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 flash drives.
The speed of USB 3 makes the installation a breeze compared to a USB 2 drive. We have found that a single installer can take up to 30GB of space, so if you need multiple Creative Cloud suites (e.g. for different labs), it would be best to buy a large capacity drive.
Can I Use it at Home?
No, Institute-licensed Adobe suites can not be used at home on personally-owned devices. That process is outlined in the article How Do I: Get Adobe Creative Cloud for Personal Use?
